Here are some bonus takeaways: 

  1. Post 2-3 times per job site. Not all job postings get exposure; try testing the title, requirements, etc.
  2. Be human – most job postings are boring and robotic. That makes people more likely to be boring and robotic too.
  3. Go for volume – over 160 people applied to the job I posted. I invited 35 to do an assignment to assess their skills (make it related, but don’t take advantage of free work). From that I invited 10 to a final interview. I hired one, but would have loved to hired 4 really awesome people.
  4. I have a clear ramp-up process going through expectations for communication, following values, quality and quantity of work. I also give flexibility and room for growth and learning. If you expect anyone in the world to be perfect, you’re setting yourself up for failure.
